  • It’s World AIDS Week! World AIDS Day is Tuesday, December 1st. There are events happening every day this week:
    • Tuesday, Dec. 1
      • Universal Access and Human Rights: A Panel Discussion on HIV/AIDS, 7pm, Conference Auditorium, GSU 2nd floor
    • Wednesday, Dec. 2
      • Picture AIDS Exhibit opens, 5pm, Howard Thurman Center, GSU Basement
    • Wednesday, Dec. 2 and Thursday, Dec. 3
      • Free HIV Rapid Testing, 10am-4pm, GSU 3rd floor conference rooms
    • Friday, Dec. 3
      • Coffee and Conversation with Dean Elmore, 3-5pm, Howard Thurman Center, GSU Basement
  • Information session for Girls’ LEAP on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 5pm in BU Central
    • Afterschool presents a new opportunity with Girls’ LEAP. The program empowers Boston girls ages 8-18 through teaching self defense and building confidence. College-aged female students serve as mentors for the younger girls as they go though the program. Volunteer opportunities would begin second semester.

  • ASB Block Party on Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 11-3pm in the GSU Link
    • Learn more about ASB’s 9 issue areas and meet trip coordinators at ASB’s first Block Party! There will also be lots of fun stuff to do (and eat); make a mud pie, build a gingerbread house, play with an etch-a-sketch, or just get to know a little more about the program.

This Week in the CSC

October 20, 2009
  • Hike for Hunger is still accepting donations in support of its hikers. Proceeds go to support Heifer International and the CSC’s Student Food Rescue. If you are interested in supporting one of our hikers who did the 50k walk, contact Z or stop by our office.
  • Making Music is looking for lots of volunteers to teach instrumental, dance and vocal lessons to children in Greater Boson! Contact Program Manager Kristin for info.
  • Children’s Theatre is holding a fundraiser with Improv Asylum this Sunday night. Buy tickets in person or over the phone and mention CT, and %50 of the profits will go to the program. Check out the Facebook event for more info.
  • Pumpkin Palooza is this Friday from 11-4 on the BU Beach. Come paint or carve a pumpkin, and it will be donated to a Boston shelter to spread the Halloween spirit!
  • FYSOP Alumni Day of Service is this Saturday from 8-2. If you are an alumni interested in participating, contact Development & Alumni Relations Manager Shane.
  • Are you a volunteer with the CSC? If so, the CSC’s Public Relations team would love you to share you experiences with the BU community! Contact Andie if you are interested.

This Week in the CSC

September 23, 2009
  • Many program applications are due this Friday, 9/25, including Voices from the Middle, Afterschool, Project Hope, MAPP and Student Studio. Contact individual programs for more information.
  • Information Sessions this week:
    • Children’s Theater’s info session was Tuesday. Please email PM Matt Donnelly if you’re interested in joining.
    • ASB Coordinator info sessions are tonight, 9/23, and tomorrow, 9/24, in the GSU’s Conference Auditorium on the 2nd floor.
    • Siblings & their new partner program DREAM have their info session tomorrow, 9/24, in the GSU’s Academy Room on the 1st floor.
  • ASB Committee Chair interviews are ongoing. Those hired will be announced at the beginning of next week.

Upcoming Applications & Deadlines:

  • First Communications Team Meeting (Ad, Photo, PR) Monday 9/28 at 8PM in the CSC. Photo team applications are due at this meeting.
  • ASB Coordinator Applications are due 10/2.
